The Malaysian International Journal of Research in Teacher Education (MIJORiTE) is an academic double blind peer reviewed journal published annually by the Department of Planning, Research and Innovation of the Institute of Teacher Education Penang Campus, Penang, Malaysia. It focuses on issues pertaining to teaching and learning, teacher training and teacher education situated in the local and/or international perspectives and contexts. The journal allows for empirical research that adopt varied approaches and cover varied disciplines making it an appropriate platform to offer readers an invaluable pool of high quality scholarly research papers. The Editors welcome Authors to contribute to MIJORiTE.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF PAPER

1.       MIJORiTE Profile Sheet

1.1     All Authors interested to submit papers must register themselves.  These include
          Single Author, Corresponding Author and Co-author(s).

1.2     Authors are to access and fill up the online MIJORiTE Profile Sheet to create their

3.       Manuscript Submission Form

3.1     The Manuscript Submission Form is a declaration form to be filled upon submission of
          the abstract and full paper. Co-authors are not required to fill this form.

3.2     Single Author and Corresponding Author are required to access and fill up the online

3.3     Manuscript submission deadline: 11.59 PM on Sunday 20 October 2019 (Malaysia

4.       Language

4.1     All articles must be written in English. If English is not your first language, please ask
          an English-speaking colleague to proofread your article. 

4.2     The use of acronyms should be avoided in the title and keywords unless widely
          recognized and understood.

4.3     Grammar, spelling and accuracy are considered as an important screening criterion.
           If your manuscript contains gross errors in English, it will be returned.

 

5.       Format

5.1     In adherence to International Editorial Convention, all papers submitted to MIJORiTE should provide full bibliographic information complete with a title, an abstract, keywords, references, and author’s name and affiliation to be stated in full.

 

5.1.1  Title 

Your article title should not be more than 16 words. Arrangement of the words should be like an inverted pyramid. Use Times New Roman font size 14-point, centre-aligned, uppercase, bold.

         Have a running head with a maximum of 50 characters printed at the top of each page of your paper.  Use Times New Roman font size 10-point, right-aligned, capitalise each word, italicised.

 

5.1.2  Author

Have single spacing after your title to type single/corresponding/co- Author’s name.

          If the paper is co-authored, one of the Authors is designated as the Corresponding Author. The rest are Co-Authors. Authors are expected to consider carefully the list and order of Authors before the Corresponding Author submits their manuscript

          For Single Author or the Corresponding Author’s name, use Times New Roman font size 12-point, centre-aligned, capitalise each word, bold. The affiliation with full postal address and email address must be stated. Use Times New Roman font size 8-point, centre-aligned, mixed of upper and lower cases, italicised.

          For Co-Author’s name, use Times New Roman font size 12-point, centre-aligned, capitalise each word, bold. Only the affiliation is to be stated.  Use Times New Roman font size 8-point, centre-aligned, mixed of upper and lower cases, italicised.

5.1.3  Abstract

Have double spacing after Author’s affiliation to type your abstract.

          An abstract is a concise synopsis of the full paper written in the third person in one paragraph and without any citation.  It describes the content and scope of the research, identifies the problems, sets the objectives, outlines its methodology and its findings, conclusions, or intended results.

           For the heading “ABSTRACT”, use Times New Roman font size 10-point, uppercase, centre-aligned, bold.

           For abstract (text), maximum length is 150 words. Use Times New Roman font size 10-point, justified, italicised.

 

5.1.4  Keywords

Have 1X spacing after the abstract.  

           For the word “Keyword:”,  use Times New Roman font size 10-point, capitalise the word, add a colon (:) instead of a period (.).

           Supply 3-5 keywords, that is, the text in words and/or phrases that are suitable for indexing and on-line search purposes. Keywords field should generally contain all the essential content words or phrases of the title and of the abstract. Use Times New Roman font size 10-point, justified, italicised with semicolon (;) as separator.

 

5.1.5  References

Have double spacing after your “Conclusion”. 

          All in-text citations and corresponding references must be in the American Psychological Association (APA) (6th or 7th edition) style.  References should be cited in the text. The reference list should include every work cited in the text.                     

           For the main heading “REFERENCES”, use Times New Roman font size 12-point, uppercase, centre-aligned, bold.  All else, use Times New Roman font size 10-point, justified.

            References are to be arranged alphabetically. Dates, spelling, names and title used in the text are consistent with those listed in the References. Sources that are accessed online must bear a DOI or URL. References with non-English titles must include a translation. The translated titles should be put in brackets following the original language title.

 

6.       Formatting for Text and Paragraph of Body of Paper

Refer to the article format-cum-template.  Please take note that the headings and sub-headings therein are not binding nor mandatory.

 

6.1     Length

6.1.1  Minimum word count: 2,000 words.  Maximum word count: 6,000 words.  Maximum word count is based on the body text.  The abstract, keywords, references and captions for tables/figures/images do not contribute toward the total word count. Maximum page length: text in double spacing in not more than 25 pages including the references. Please note that references as well as texts within tables and figures can be in single spacing.  

 

6.1.2  Text submitted for review should be presented double-spaced in Times New Roman font. Please note that the final manuscript (FA / CTP / camera-ready paper) in .PDF format will be single-spaced to fit not more than 12 pages of the journal.   

 

6.1.3  Article is to be saved and submitted to the Managing Editor in MS Word .docx and .pdf formats

6.1.4  Use your running head (see 5.1.1 above) to name your file.  Example: Student Teachers Learning Experiences.docx (see sample attached to the invitation letter).

 

6.2     Paper Size and Margin

B5-sized paper of (width) 6.93 inches  X  9.84 inches (height).  Margin (top, bottom, left, right) 8 inches.  

 

6.3     Spacing

Before you begin, set the line spacing of the whole document in MS Word 2016 to ‘Double’.  Steps:       Home – Paragraph -  Spacing – Line Spacing – choose: Double

References as well as texts within tables and figures to be in single spacing.  

 

6.4     Seriation, Font Type and Font Size 

6.4.1  Seriation

          For Level 1: main headings e.g. “INTRODUCTION”, “METHODOLOGY” etc.: size 12-point, centre-aligned, uppercase, bold

          For Level 2: subheadings e.g. “BACKGROUND OF STUDY”, “SAMPLING”, “DATA COLLECTION PROCEDURES” etc.: size 10-point, centre-aligned, uppercase, bold.

          For Level 3: sub-subheadings e.g. “Quantitative Data Collection”, “Qualitative Data Collection” etc.:  size 10-point, centre-aligned, capitalise each word, bold.

          For Level 4, sub-sub-subheadings e.g. “Data Collection from Tertiary Institutions” etc.: size 10-point, centre-aligned, capitalise each word, italicised.

6.4.2  Font Type and Font Size

(a)    Use Times New Roman. Use standard size 10-point for abstract (title), keyword,
         running head, subheadings and all body texts. Exceptions for article title, the Author’s
         name, main headings and Author’s affiliation.

(b)     For article title: size 14-point, centre-aligned, uppercase, bold, inverted pyramid.

(c)     For abstract (text), keywords (text) and body texts: size 10-point, justified, italicised.

(d)     For paragraphs: size 10-point, justified.

(e)     For Author’s name:  size 12-point, centre-aligned, capitalise each word, bold

 

7.       Tables, Figures and Images

7.1     Maximum of six tables, six figures and six images.

7.2     For text within tables, figures and callouts: size 8-10 point according to own discretion. 

 

7.3     Tables

Label no. in plain text (first line).  Caption italicised (second line) appear above the table, size 10-point, left-aligned.

7.4     Figures

Label no. to be italicised.  Caption in plain text in the same line appear below the figure, size 10-point, centre-aligned.

7.5     Images

Original image files preferably in .jpeg format. They should be rendered in greyscale with a resolution of at least 720 dpi.

 

8.       Footnotes and Appendices

Footnotes and appendices should not appear. Such materials may be incorporated into the article text, figures and tables. The Editors have the jurisdiction to disregard and exclude any appendices that have been added by Authors, whether they are attached to the end of their manuscript or those that are submitted separately from the article.

9.       Ethics in Publishing

Please refer to the Publication Ethics Statement.

 

10.     Manuscript Evaluation Criteria

Manuscripts reviewed will be judged on the following aspects:

(a)      Visual presentation (title, headings, graphics, illustration)

(b)     Significance of the paper (importance, relevance, innovation, contribution to the field,
          timeliness, originality)

(c)     Structure or composition of the paper (appropriacy of content for journal publication)

(d)     Research rigour (Literature review, conceptual/theoretical contribution, freshness of
          approach, design, analysis, findings, conclusion)

(e)      Quality of writing (organisation, style, language and content clarity, cohesiveness of
          presentation, read as a formal academic article).

PUBLICATION ETHICS STATEMENT

INTRODUCTION

The Editors of Malaysian International Journal of Research in Teacher Education welcome well-written, original and high-quality research works that adhere to publishing ethics rules. It is crucial that all contributing Authors (single author, corresponding author, co-authors) observe the guidelines failing which they may risk having their reputation tainted as a researcher.

 

Malaysian International Journal of Research in Teacher Education follows the Code of Conduct of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and follows the COPE Flowcharts for resolving cases of suspected misconduct.

 

ETHICS IN RESEARCH AND PUBLISHING

1.       Originality and Relevance

          All papers submitted must be original research papers.  It should contain suitable material for the journal. Multiple or concurrent submissions, redundant submissions of previously published works and out of scope articles will not be considered and will be returned to Authors without review.  The same article cannot be duplicated and published if it has appeared elsewhere in a conference proceeding, in a printed journal, in an online journal and/or in any publicly visible website.

 

2.       Authorship

An author is an individual who:

(a      has made substantial intellectual contribution to the conception, design,
          acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the reported study,

(b)     has been involved in the drafting or revising it critically for important
          intellectual content

(c)     has given the final approval of the version to be published, and

(d)     has agreed to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that
          questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are
          appropriately investigated and resolved.’

         

The Corresponding Author is the one individual in a group of authors who is:

(a)      the primary contact for communication with the co-authors as well as the
           journal during the manuscript submission, peer review, and publication
          process,

(b)     responsible for getting the co-authors to review, amend according to
          reviewer’s comments and approve the final version of the manuscript
          (abstract and full paper) prior to submission,

(c)      available to respond to editorial queries throughout the submission and
           peer review process, to respond to critiques of the work and cooperate with
          any requests from the journal for data or additional information should
          questions about the paper arise after publication.

3.       Copyright Materials

It is the Author´s responsibility to ensure that where copyright materials are included within an article the permission of the copyright holder has been obtained.

4.       Plagiarism

Authors who use the work and/or words of others should properly acknowledge those works by appropriately citing or quoting them; otherwise such Authors would be considered as committing an act of plagiarism.

 

5.       Accuracy of References

It is the Author's responsibility to verify the accuracy of all references and their corresponding citations.  The list of references will not be fact checked during copy-editing.

 

6.       Conflicts of Interests

A conflict of interest exists when professional judgment concerning a primary interest (such as patients' welfare or the validity of research) may be influenced by a secondary interest (such as financial gain) (ICMJE, 2019). It is the Author's responsibility to disclose all relationships that could be viewed as presenting a potential conflict of interest. 

 

7.       Informed Consent

It is the Author's responsibility to apply for Ethics Committee approval and informed consent if their study involved minors and/or patients with images and details reported in the study.
